Online communication - Pokémon assessment
I decided to assess a company that has been around since I was five years old, Pokémon. This company grew up in the digital, as did I. So they have also had to learn and adapt to changing technologies and social media strategies.
This company uses the main website and its Facebook page to communicate everything from video games, trading card games, animation, and events.
Their Facebook page may show updates to what is listed above, but it also focuses a lot on Pokémon profiles and gift ideas.
The last few posts on their Instagram are about the video games, and Pokémon concierge on Netflix - which is actually a very adorable show about a resort where Pokémon go to rest and rejuvenate. They also have an entirely separate Instagram for their trading card game.
All in all, I think Pokémon does a good job of spreading the news among their various platforms and also keeping the content fun and different depending on what platform you are on.
A the very top of the main website, links to the Pokémon Center (where you buy merchandise), the Pokémon Trading Card Game, the Scarlet/Violet video game, and Pokémon forums are featured. The middle has more pictures/links to Scarlet/Violet, Pokémon pins you can purchase, live streaming on Twitch, and featured Pokémon, as well as many other things. The bottom of the page has a place to sign up to receive email updates; there is also links to all socials; and of course links to terms of use, privacy, parents guide, customer service, careers, etc., etc.
I think they have it organized this way based on what they want people to engage the most with and what people are the most interested in. I know Scarlet/Violet is extremely popular and so is the trading card game. People also adore all the Pokémon plushies, to it makes sense to have a link to their online store right away. Businesses also always put the same information at the bottom, so if a person was looking for their terms of use or social media links they would automatically scroll there anyway.
This company loves to highlight the different generations of Pokémon and showcase all the different creatures they have created in each generation. Plus, they like to show off all the amazing animation and artwork that has gone into creating, cultivating, and continuing this legacy for nearly thirty years.
This part of their grid on Instagram focuses on the brilliant art from their video games.
Honestly, I think this company does a fantastic job with its online communication. One look at their socials and I already want to purchase all the merchandise they highlighted. Also, I am not a huge video game player but looking at their Instagram grid makes me want to buy a Switch and play Scarlet/Violet. I appreciate that they share a lot of their video games for people like me who probably will never play but may still want to see what they are like.
